We had a 10-hour layover in LA on the way home, which turned
out to be plenty of time to get out and see a little bit of the city (even
after baggage claim took over an hour, but a 600+ passenger, double-decker
plane = a LOT of luggage…). How easy it is to get around when you speak the
language! The hardest part was deciding where to spend our few hours:
Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, Rodeo Drive, the Sunset Strip… so many
fun places to spend an afternoon! We decided upon Santa Monica because we
wanted to dip our feet in the Pacific, now that we were on the other side of
it!
We went for burgers,
and it was a reality check when the bill was equal to our entire daily budget
for most of the countries we visited… But the burgers were really, really good… (I had the Earth Burger – a mushroom and
edamame patty, truffled ricotta, cipollini onions, butter lettuce, roasted
tomato, and white soy aioli… drool! So glad I’m not stuck on rice and bananas
anymore!)
Since 9/11 there are no lockers in LAX at all, so we had to carry our bags. |
oh so beautiful! I live in Santa Monica and it is so lovely to see folks capture it so well. We were at home yesterday, but I wondered if the clouds made some beautiful light along the shore.
ReplyDeleteI cannot wait to catch up on your other blog posts. It has been all kind of crazy here with end-of-school for my boys. xxoo
Thanks, Rebecca! What a coincidence! I had no idea you lived there! Yeah, it's a great place. I'm glad we had a long layover in LA, but it was of course such a tease to be there for just a few hours! We definitely need to come back and explore more of the area. I've spent some time around San Fran, and love that area too. California's just so great!
ReplyDeleteHappy end-of-school to the boys! They must be excited for summer. :)

Wow - I cannot believe you are already back. Time has flown by - in a sense. Is it weird being back from such a long and involved expedition of sorts? I always feel it takes time to adjust and am a little overwhelmed when I get back to "North America" and all of its craziness. It has been wonderful to follow you along the way.
ReplyDeleteWelcome back, the boys and I will be in Ontario for the month of July.

I know - it is very weird. I still feel like we're going to pick up and be on the move again soon. But at the same time, I'm happy to be home, and don't want to go anywhere!
DeleteThank you so much for following along with this adventure - your comments always made me feel connected. :) Let me know if you're headed Ottawa way in July, it would be lovely to meet you.

I'm so happy that you're back!! Santa Monica looks like a lovely little stop over on your way home. I would like to have that burger. Now please.
